The name and drive behind August 5ifth is stemmed from my brother Matthew;

His birth date, August 5th, 1994.

When Mattie was 4 years old, he endured the adverse effects of a vaccine, leading him to lose half of his brain, gain full paralysis of his body, and develop severe epilepsy.

From then on, he couldn't walk, talk, eat normally, hug!

Growing up alongside Mattie, without a singular conversation, he distilled ways of being in me that you definitely do not receive from your average 'brother'.

Mattie was everything but average.

He shifted my perspective on how precious our minds and bodies are and the simple, little, intricate things we often take for granted. 

Experiencing life with an able body is a vast & precious precious gift, and the ability to move and create like that little boy in the photo.

I will continue to be curious about everything possible , to endure all routes of creativity and movement, and live life with so much passion and presence.
